NVS TGT Exam Pattern

NVS TGT selection has TWO Tiers:


👉 Tier-1: Preliminary (Qualifying) Exam

  • Mode: OMR Based (Objective)
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Marks: 300
  • Nature: Qualifying only (marks not counted in final merit)
  • Negative Marking: Yes, 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer (1/3rd of 3 marks)

📌 AGE LIMIT (For all TGT posts)

  • Maximum Age: 35 years
  • Age Relaxation:
    • OBC (NCL): +3 years
    • SC/ST: +5 years
    • Women (all categories): +10 years (for TGT posts)
    • PwBD: 10–15 years depending on category

📌 Essential Qualifications (Common Requirements)

For all TGT subjects (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, 3rd Language, Maths, Science, SST):

1. Educational Qualification

Candidate must have ANY ONE of the following:

Option A — 4-Year Integrated Degree

  • Four-year integrated B.A./B.Sc. + B.Ed. from an NCTE recognized university
  • Must have 50% marks in:
    • The concerned subject
    • Overall aggregate

Option B — Regular Graduation + B.Ed.

  • Bachelor’s degree (Honours/General) with:
    • At least 50% marks in the subject applied for
    • 50% marks overall
  • AND B.Ed. with minimum 50% marks

Option C — Integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.

  • 3-year Integrated B.Ed.–M.Ed. with 50% marks

Option D — B.Ed. (Special Education)

  • 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education) with 50% marks

📌 CTET Requirement

  • Must have qualified CTET Paper-II
    (mandatory for TGT Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Maths, Science, SST, 3rd Language)

📌 Language Requirement

  • Must have competency to teach both Hindi and English medium

NVS teachers get an additional 10% Special Allowance for performing residential duties in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

This is not available in KVS, only NVS.


Gross Salary (Approx) for NVS TGT

(Based on Level-7 & 10% residential allowance)

  • Basic Pay: ₹44,900
  • DA (approx 50%): ₹22,450
  • HRA (varies 9–27% depending on city): ₹4,000–₹12,000
  • TA: ₹3,600 – ₹4,800
  • 10% Special Allowance: ₹4,490
  • Other allowances included

Approx In-Hand Salary:

👉 ₹62,000 – ₹72,000 per month (depending on city)

From the notification details for NVS residential schools:

  • Receive free staff quarters (subject to availability).
